Just weeks after parting from his wife, Princess Caroline of Monaco, I learn that her volatile husband, Prince Ernst of Hanover, is being consoled by a similarly well-connected beauty.

She is Maryam Sachs, the ravishing Iranian-born wife of London-based furniture designer Rolf Sachs, son of Brigitte Bardot's ex-husband, playboy Gunther Sachs, and heir to a German nut-and-bolts fortune.

For, by coincidence, just as Ernst and Caroline's ten-year marriage began heading for the divorce court, the 24-year union of Sachs and his wife was also unravelling.

The two couples were friends and had holidayed together in the past.

Rolf, 53, is understood to be no longer sharing the marital home in Fulham, where he showcases his contemporary furniture designs. Yet only a month ago the couple seemed happy enough as they attended the wedding in Oxfordshire of Samantha Cameron's half-brother Will Astor
