Prince Harry will play in a charity Caribbean polo match in aid of the impoverished children of Lesotho, St James's Palace has said.

The royal described the future of the African youngsters - many of whom have lost their parents to HIV or Aids - as "very bleak" in a YouTube video message.

Harry, 25, will take to the field at the exclusive Apes Hill Polo Club in Barbados in January to raise money for his charity Sentebale which helps orphans and vulnerable children in Lesotho.

In the broadcast posted on the YouTube-hosted Royal Channel, Harry said he was proud of the work his organisation had achieved since being set up three years ago.

Britain's Prince Harry will visit Barbados next week to play in a charity polo match.

The prince - who is set to arrive in the country on January 29 - will spend three days on his first official visit where he will participate in the inaugural Sentebale Polo Cup at the Apes Hill Polo Club, an organisation set up by Harry and his brother Prince William to help funds for African children affected by HIV and AIDS.
