It would tie things up nicely. They would marry a Greek and marry wealthy. These shipping families are worth billions, more than we can even imagine. These people have their own islands, billions, jet set, and they would tie the Greek royals to their Greek heritage.

Was one of Aristole Onassis's wives connected to Royalty or Aristocracy somehow?

(not Jackie Kennedy)   his first wife?

Oh here it is , She was called Tina, it was AFTER she divorced Onassis, she married the Marquess of Blandford (a Spencer Churchill)

Athina Mary Livanos Onassis Spencer-Churchill Niarchos
Quote
Known as Tina, she was married three times. Her husbands were:

Aristotle Onassis (28 December 1946-1960); with him she had two children, Alexander Onassis (1948-1973) and Christina Onassis (1950-1988). She divorced him when she discovered her husband having sex in the saloon of her daughter's namesake yacht, the Christina, with the opera singer Maria Callas.
John Spencer-Churchill, Marquess of Blandford (23 October 1961-1971)
Stavros Niarchos (21 October 1971-1974), her sister Eugenia's widower.
After her divorce from Aristotle Onassis, Tina dropped her married name and used her maiden name, until her marriage to the Marquess of Blandford.

While married to Stavros, Tina's son Alexander Onassis died in a plane crash at the age of 24. Tina was devastated by this loss.

Tina Niarchos died in Paris, where she was living with her then husband Stavros Niarchos, of a drug overdose. Her only living descendant is her namesake granddaughter, Athina Onassis de Miranda. Tina's daughter, Christina, sued her mother's widower for her mother's estimated $250 million (in 1974 dollars) estate claiming the marriage should be annulled under Greek law. Christina later dropped the lawsuit and Niarchos returned all of the money as well as Tina's jewelry, artwork and other personal effects.

That's interesting question Kuei Fei, I also wonder why the Greek Princes did not pursue some of the Greek heiresses, there are definately a few (we never hear or read about) with money. I wonder if maybe because the Greek Princes spent time in America that they went for American heiresses for some reason.  Scratching head

America wealthy heiresses have long been known to also seek a British or European titled husband, to give them something an American marriage could not, a Princess, Duchess, Countess,Lady, title.

Didn't Lady Diana Spencer's American Grandmother bring more money to the Spencer clan also?
I think I read that somewhere?
  Scratching head
I also remember reading that Aristotle felt his son should date Royalty, but his son kept choosing women who he knew his father would reject as a good choice. He loved to rebell against his father's wishes.

Quote
Alexander famously dated Fiona (née Campbell Walter) Thyssen, a woman 16 years his senior and of whom his father strongly disapproved [5]. It is believed now that Alexander had intentions of marrying her despite his father's energetic attempts to break them up. Fiona was divorced from Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza since 1965. She was a New Zealand-born fashion model. During their relationship, she was 40 years old and Alexander was 24

The Greeks Probally know better than to have their daughter's marry Royalty, especially if they're only marrying because of Money.  Smart to keep their wealthy daughters away from them IMO.

When King Konstantic was deposed, the GRF was expelled from the country. Their private properties were nationalized and until late 90's they weren't allowed to enter Greece, despite the fact they are Greek citizens. It was a very long legal battle against several Greek governments, and they only won it when the European Court decided at their favor. They recovered the right to enter the country and some house...

They didn't went for a Greek heiress because they couldn't enter Greece to pursue them and because they were "personas no gratas" in the country (I believe they still are in certain circles). Wasn't hard for the Greeks billionaires to chose between the good grace of the men in power or some exiled ex-royal family.

You have a good point there; it's not like Constantine wasn't responsible for what happened, like the Romanovs or the French royals. A lot of Greeks suffered under the Junta and I am sure that a lot of the shipping families have had kin suffer. Either way though, it would have tied things up nicely. What do you guys think?

Hello: Newly engaged Prince Nikolaos poses with fiancée

Quote
After recently announcing their engagement, Prince Nikolaos of Greece and his love of five years, Tatiana Blatnik, have appeared in public for the first time to mark the event.

The delighted couple posed for photos at the Yacht Club of Greece in Athens, alongside Nikolaos’ parents, King Constantine and Queen Anne Marie.

Forty-year-old Nikolaos, who is the cousin of Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim of Denmark, is thought to have popped the question on December 27.

An events planner for fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg in London, Tatiana, 29, comes from a Russian-Jewish family and is the granddaughter of Ellinka Countess von Einsiedel.

No date for the wedding has yet been announced.

He's also a 1st cousin of Crown Prince Felipe, Infanta Elena and Infanta Criistina of Spain...

She's beautiful.  I'm glad they are finally engaged.  Does Nikolaus look uncomfortable in those fotos?
