This American thinks Harry is JUST FINE.

I think the whole thing is rediculous.  Harry isn't a racist.  His comments were not made as  a put down.  

I have a friend that I call shorty.  She is short.  Does that make me discrimating against her? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.  It is a nick name and something that means we are close and friends with eachother.  It isn't a sign that I have some secret undisclosed hatred on short people.

Harry's comments I took in a similar vein.

I;ve not read all the comments posted, but I would just like to point out that when PH called his platoon friend 'Paki", it appeared the guy had just woken up  frm his sleep and was obviously out of earshot, as PH had to zoom his camera in to get a proper headshot.

I have a guy from Afghanistan in my class ( we're an international one so we have students from all around the world) We call him all crazy stuff that would make us seem like totally racists, but the thing is, he started saying them himself. He calls himself "The beast from the east", some "taliban comments" have been made as well, that his relatives lives in caves...so on..
he's our friend and I think the same goes for Harry and his army pals.

yes, but the point of my post was that  PH did not call his pal "Paki" within his ear shot. He was not aware that PH was calling him Paki. Who knows if he is fine with it or not.The entire scenario would have been entirely different had PH called him that  name when he was listening and the person in concern called him "whitey" in return. IMO.

as you can tell by my profile pic, my sons are bi-racial (black and white) and we constantly make silly comments to each other like this. but we have some boundries and we try not to do it in public.  They are not racist comments (obviously) they are punching fun at a sterotype set out by some people that we actually know not to be true.  

Sounds like Harry was just poking fun.  and don't think this is the first war they have names for the enemy.  that has happened in every war.  

Why now though?? It's from 2006??  was it a tape from a "friend" who is now mad? wasn't there only one media person allowed to follow him around??  sounds like someone sold him out.

I am sry but I don't go around calling my friends names because of the race they belong to I know I've been called white trash and it's not fun to be made fun of even if they were joking.  I agree with you don'tknow harry wasn't in ear shot of this guy so how does anyone know how he felt when he too saw this video or when he was told about it.   Could it be that he turned Prince Harry in  IMO

I'm not disagreeing with you Nyx.  I'm just not sure we really have the real story.  It could be they were friends and had a falling out.  We will really never know.  Harry should know he is consistently being watched.  He just messed up.  but he did apologize.

Honestly, what does the "friend" say about all of this? I think that whoever sold the video must have been desperate for the cash. Why hang onto something for 3 yrs and then all of the sudden sell it to the media?

Makes me think this was indeed just a joke and the way they all talk (been around soldiers enough to know they don't mind their p's and q's) and that no offense was intended.

the guy was clear across the other side of the room not within ear shot of what Prince Harry said.  Do we even know if they played the video tape for all that were filmed ? or just the ones that were involved in this little stupid video session.  What ever the cause may be PH was in the wrong clearly IMO

ok  i should clarify the American media who everyone thinks speaks for the american people - with its liberal ideologies........

As an American, and one who considers herself very liberal, I can take offense to the statement "liberal ideologies" as if that was a bad thing.

ANYWAY ON TOPIC:
Harry is not a racist, has never been a racist, and that is a fact!

He does however not always think with his brain before doing impulsive things that end up getting him into trouble. Cases in point: Nazi uniform (To me at least over and done with. Thank goodness!) and now his own video where he uses questionable language to describe his friends.

Now I get that it was in fun, but so was the Nazi thing, and I'm sure so was the funnel drinking tube as well. The thing he doesn't seem to understand is that wether it is fair or not, wether he likes it or not, the media (wrongly imo) WILL and DO bring it up and blow it out of proportion.

AS third in line to the throne, he should have the same decorum and sense that people expect from William imo. If William were the one who got caught doing these things, people would be all over him even more than sometimes they already are. The fact is Harry (and William) need to start thinking like adults and thinking about the repercussions of their actions in regards to their position in life.
